The current state of affairs in the US

I am increasingly concerned by the routine stretching of the safeguards of democracy in the US. As the saying goes, familiarity breeds contempt. The more we stretch and push on the safeguard the easier it becomes to justify the action. On one hand, it will be captivating to see how institutions created to repel totalitarianism will react while, on the other, I am getting really worried that they will not. For Canadians who need to be in bed with this elephant the prospect is worrisome.

And please, save me the false emotions, what is happening is a transfer of power from an engaged minority to a privileged group in the name of security. Our new GOD has a symbol on it, $ which is interesting since is that not exactly what Moses was trying to prevent? Would be nice if the preachers understood their own book.

The central issue here is not that it is happening but that it is happening consciously. I wonder what the builders of those institutions would think if they had foreseen the push coming from within.

I am also increasingly curious about the inevitable counter reaction. Extremes on both sides become identical, only the clothes differ.
